Actor, writer and director,
Felipe Rocha was born in Paris in 1972. He has been living in Brazil since 1978
and holds a degree in Performing Arts from Universidade Federal do Estado do
Rio de Janeiro (Uni-Rio).
His background includes
internships, workshops, residencies and performances with artists such as Tim
Crouch, Ant Hampton, Jerome Bel, Thomas Lehmen, Olga Mesa, Juan Domingues, Robert Pacitti
and Vera Mantero, among others.
Felipe was one of the 30
artist participating at “Rio Occupation London” project, based at
Battersea Arts Center, in London in July’ 2012.
Since 1986 he has been
working with renowned theater directors in Rio de Janeiro. In 2002, he began
working with director Enrique Diaz, creating
shows like "Rehearsal.Hamet" which received an award for Best Foreign
Play from the French Association of Theatre Critics. He also collaborates with
Portuguese artist Tiago Rodrigues, with whom he created 3 plays in 2009 and one in 2012 in Lisbon.
Co-director of the theatre
group Foguetes Maravilha, with which he performs his plays, the latest being
"Ninguém Falou que Seria Fácil"
awarded the main theatre prizes in Rio this year: Shell, Questão de
Crítica and Theatre Producers Association of Rio, for best
dramaturgy.
He has performed at theatre
festivals, such as "Festival d'Automne à Paris", "Kunsten
Festival des Arts" in Brussels, Wienner Festwochen (Vienna), "Spring
Arts Festival" in Shizuoka (Japan), "Festival Chekhov" in
Moscow, "Under the Radar" in New York, "El Grec", in
Barcelona,"Transamériques" in Montreal, "Buenos Aires Theatre
Festival" and "Alkantara" in Lisbon, among many others.
He also works as a
performer in film and contemporary dance. And he is a musician,
award-winning film composer and trumpeter, singer and artistic director of the
musical group Brasov.
As video director, his most
recent works are the short film "Maybe in Lisbon", the music video "Cine Privê" by Domenico Lancelotti, and "Samba do Blackberry",
by band Tono.
